How does it work with the merch?

Whether you're a content creator, manager or follower - everyone knows the term "merch" by now. In today's blog post, we're writing about merch. What is it actually, what can be sold as merch and how do you get your own merch?

What is merchandise?

Let's start with what "merch" actually is. The term is an abbreviation for merchandising. Merchandising refers to sales promotion in the retail sector. This involves selling or giving away items that contain advertising for a brand. In case of doubt, your own or that of your favorite creator.

Merchandise can be roughly divided into two categories:

Free merchandise

e.g. at trade fairs. (ballpoint pens, jute bags, etc.)
Companies give away these branded products as a small gift so that the brand is remembered and the advertising message is spread.

Sale of merchandise

Is sometimes a major source of income. (e.g. franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, Pokémon or Games of Thrones)
These are everyday items that are printed with corresponding motifs or texts and sold.

In a broad sense, the term therefore encompasses all activities aimed at increasing sales. An important aspect is the optimal placement of goods, advertising and extras such as competitions or prize draws in general. However, the manufacturer's advertising measures, such as packaging etc., are not included. These points fall under the term marketing.

How? Where? What - Merch!

While we're on the subject of sales, let's continue right here. When it comes to merchandise, the focus is on sales. This is particularly important in the areas of culture and sport: clubs, bands, games, series and films. Content creators are currently also doing very well with the sale of merch. From T-shirts, hoodies and key rings to their own drinks and e-shishas. So there is a wide variety of products that can be sold as merch.

Now we come to the last point: How do you get your own merch? There are various ways to have your own merch produced and distribute it. Today we will show you the variant that we offer in our company.

As a rule, you send us an inquiry via our sourcing check on our website, where you can find out directly whether your merch is suitable for sourcing from China. You can also send us an email or a message on Instagram. In this message, you should write briefly and concisely what you are interested in. Do you already have a plan of what you would like to have produced, or do you already have all the data such as patterns etc.? Is your product still in the development phase or has this already been completed and can it be produced immediately? How much do you need by when? As soon as we have all this data, we can help you further. We have already explained the following process steps in another article, but we will list them again briefly and concisely for you:

  1. Inquiry - You send us a non-binding inquiry
  2. Research - We research options for you
  3. Offer - We send you an offer
  4. Order - You place the order with us
  5. Delivery - We deliver the goods to your doorstep

After all this information, here is a brief overview of merch:

  • 2 different definitions: Sales promotion by retailers and sales of 'fan merchandise'
  • Fan merchandise for bands, clubs, content creators, etc.
  • Organized independently or via service providers

Now a few more references from our company.
